Every Day can’t be beat even though the album is full of fantastic tracks. Every Day is like the signature Steve Hackett song.

My favorite of all of his solo albums, so many good songs. Defector is almost part 2 of this album, same band and never better than this.

As much as I love “Every Day,” Steve has played it so often that I no longer associate it with the album, if that makes sense. Same for “Clocks.” Not quite the same for “Spectral Mornings” as, to be honest….well, sometimes best not be too honest. For me, it’s down to the two songs that haven’t been played much, if at all: “Decomposing Man” which is so incredibly different from anything Steve did before or since and always puts a smile on the face (“Who are all these people in my office anyway?”), or the full version of “Tigermoth.” I went with “Tigermoth” as it was the track that stood out the most when I first heard the album back in 1988. Love the intro, the sound effects, and the ghost story-ish lyrics. I’d love to hear Nad take it out for a spin with the current band….

Just as Genesis had 2 albums that lead up to ‘Supper’ , Steve had 2 albums that lead up to ‘Spectral Mornings’ – His swan song.
This album is very eclectic. So many sounds.
There’s a reason ‘Everyday’ has opened just about every live set Steve has done…and that’s because it’s a banger. I believe it means a lot to him. ‘Gypsy’s chorus is sublime with some quintessential Hackett guitar thrown in. Steve’s love of world music comes through on ‘red flower’. Very pleasant.
‘Clocks’ is a brilliant piece that I could see as a Genesis track. It has that dramatic atmosphere.
What Hackett album wouldn’t be complete without some classical guitar & brother playing flute ? ‘Lost Time’ is that piece.
More drama with ‘Tigermoth’. Very good tune.
and then there’s the title track….Steve went above & beyond with this piece.
If he said this piece of music came to him in a Transcendental Meditation session, I’d believe him.
‘spectral Mornings’ is a spiritual piece of music that often moves me emotionally. Incredibly evocative. I can’t have it on in the background; it deserves my full attention. And I often want 1 more reprise of that triumphant guitar part. Steve has said ‘Mornings’ is about the spirits journey after death & he really nailed that theme.
Very good album with the title track sending it ‘to the other side’.
