Thank you, once again, for terrific podcast episode. You all blow me away with your depth of knowledge and passion for this music.
You prompted me to listen to SO for the first time in years…. Yes, it is an amazing album, and I cannot disagree with the sentiment expressed by several of you that “In Your Eyes” is truly a perfect song and the pinnacle of PG’s creative output.
This is my favorite PG album so I was glad to hear you guys talk about it!
Can’t really complain about the top 3 songs – I don’t have a “favorite” one here, so I think I love those songs equally 😛
As an aside, I’ve always mentally considered Lead a Normal Life, We Do What We’re Told and Fourteen Black Paintings like “sister songs” or something (and I include “Listen” by Tears for Fears in that group, curiously enough). I call them “zeitgeist songs” or some stuff like that, because to me they kinda reflect their times in their music, they’re more concerned about setting a mood with lengthy instrumental repetition with a short vocal performance (compared to the instrumental) and their lyrics are vague, ambiguous, open to interpretation, almost dream-like. That’s why I group that TFF song with the others 😉
Outstanding podcast. Made me fall in love with “So” again. Thanks, Tabletop Team!
Have to agree with Stacy on “That Voice Again” is much more danceable that “Sledgehammer.” The tempo for “Voice” at 117 bpm is much more natural to dance to than “Sledgehammer”‘s 99 bpm. But I’ll give Mike and Simon that “Sledgehammer” has a much more singable and memorable melody. Either way, I love the debate! Great work, team. Please keep them coming!!
Thank you, Robert, for preaching the TRUTH! XOXO
Please inform Stacey my 4th favourite track is Hear That Voice! You go girl!
