I really want to vote for the bombastic Burning Rope, but Follow You Follow Me, being my favorite Genesis pop song on any of their records, gets my vote.
Please consider allowing us to vote for out favourite 2 tracks and not have to choose between them – often we have multiple favourites for completely different reasons, both of which seem just as good as each other.
What an extraordinary album. I feel it’s their most beautifully melodic album… certainly their “warmest” enveloping album of all, there’s such a kind of incredible overall shimmer to it.
Undertow, with its elevating, evocative chorus.
Many Too Many – a perfectly constructed and so sweetly melodic ballad.
Deep In The Motherlode – carried along on these great pulsing waves of sound.
Say It’s Alright Joe, with its residues of Wind and Wuthering.
The Lady Lies, the late 70’s evolution from songs like Fountain of Salmacis.
And of course Follow You Follow Me – the first Genesis track I ever heard, and instantly loved.
I think I may have to abstain from voting for a single favourite.
Tough call. This is a very even album. Any one of about half a dozen of the tracks could be my favourite on any single day.
I think you should have optional multipe voting, where you can cast a vote for as many tracks as you wish up to a maximum of say half the total number of tracks.
Tough choice between the very strong opening and closing tracks. Ended up choosing FYFM, but I’ll join the chorus calling for multiple votes. Can’t wait to hear the group’s thoughts on the album!
Never ‘got’ FYFM, and I like a good pop song. The hook is boring, to me.
I fluctuate between the side openers, Down And Out and Deep In The Motherlode. very dramatic opening keyboard riffs, me like! Deep wins for its dramatic bridge part, and the exit from that into the final verse (the monotonous note going ta-ta ta-ta ta) was very heavy and effective in all live renditions I’ve heard!
Many Too Many is the first Genesis song I heard and loved, so it will always be a favorite. very beautiful and emotional.
I guess it fluctuates.. this album has lots of drama in almost all the songs, and a very unique sound, Very compressed, which I like for its resulting darkness.

The Day The Light Went out, B-side of Many Too Man!
