Ha! Is there anything specific about the album that rubs you the wrong way, or does it just not do anything for you?

        Doesn’t do anything for me
I went and saw The Wicked Lady in theaters for the soundtrack and was disappointed. My fave is, by far, Still, I really like the Fugitive and Strictly Inc. is a-ok. Please don’t think badly of me, I don’t like most of Mike’s solo output either other than the first Mike and the Mechanics album. Btw, did any of you ever see the Miami Vice episode where they played Par Avion? One of my all-time favorite moments in television. I also love the songs that Mike, Phil and Peter did on the Against All Odds soundtrack.

Would never think badly! The Tabletop might have to do a movie marathon one day – The Shout, Wicked Lady, Quicksilver and Buster. I don’t believe any of us has seen any of them. (Don’t think badly of us. 😉

Quicksilver is a movie I enjoy. Kevin Bacon and Jamie Gertz. Love the collaboration with Fish.

Wonderful piece of art, ACF! Not done listening. But a few points –

    1. Tony Banks , apparently, knows in advance what he is doing:
    http://www.worldofgenesis.com/JohnBurns-interview2006.htm
” With Genesis, Tony Banks would put in some very weird chords, and I’d say, “That’s really discordant.” Let’s say that those first chords were on organ. Then, he’d lay piano over top, and then I saw that it all made sense (laughs)! The next over dub just pulled it all together. ”

    2. …So that is all the music Peter Gabriel kept singing over :))))))

    3. TB is the master of cheesy ’80s sounds. The man who created the majestic opening to “watcher of the skies”, also recorded the meowing opening to “Sombody Elses Dream”.

    4. Tony uses bell sounds in Forever Morning as a foreboding sound, the same way he did in Evidence of Autumn. He has a vocabulary of sounds and their meanings.

Re: For A While sounding like Tears On My Pillow. I know the Kylie Minogue version of that more than the version in Grease, sadly!

Thanks for ‘taking me back’ to 1979! As a TB fanboy I had to buy this album and was relatively pleased with most of the tracks. I do recall listening to The Waters Of Lethe over and over (at max volume!)…loved that grandiose layered keyboard! Yum!!
Your podcast is great, and I look forward to more!

Thanks, Glen. It’s a real shame Tony hasn’t felt the desire to do what Steve does and play shows featuring Genesis stuff and his own solo material. I’m SURE he could fill some smaller venues – the diehards who still go to see Steve (and Mike + the Mechanics) would surely go.

A fellow Genesis fan told me about this site and I am hooked. I’ve listened to this podcast and the smallcreeps day one.

Only enjoy hearing new perceptions on genesis and genesis related stuff and being a (almost) lifelong Genesis fan enjoy learning new stuff.

    Great stuff!

Also a couple of years ago, Tony Banks won the Prog Rock God award and it’s on YouTube if any of you haven’t seen it.

Thanks, James! It’s been a fun time discussing the minutiae of all things Genesis! In the next month or two, keep an eye out for our SEBTP episode!

I have watched Tony’s speech – he can be funny! 🙂

      All the best,

      Tom

This is definitely my favourite Genesis solo member album, and there are a number of albums by Genesis proper that I like less than this one. My niggling criticism was always the mixing on the original – at times kim Beacon sounds as if he is singing in the wrong room. That is well and truly rectified on the 2009 remix.

Hey….I’m new here, but it seems like this episode was quite a bit ago. How often do you do episodes? I’m listening and relistening to all the ones so far, but I’m really looking forward to the next episode. It’s probably just hard to coordinate all of you getting together. Anyway, I’m one anxious budding Genesis fan.

Hi Steve – thanks for listening! The five of us are spread out between Philly and two NJ cities, but we do try to meet up to record every few months, and knock out one or two episodes for recording. We would love to stick to a once-a-month release, which we have done for the most part. We’re a little behind at the moment, as our post-editor extraordinaire Simon has been crazed with the launch of his new band Valdez’s debut album, THIS. (https://www.facebook.com/valdezrock/). But we’re hoping for a July release of the next podcast, and we’ve got a few in the can, too. Plus, we’re meeting in July to record a few more … so lots coming up! – Tom

Thanks Tom. Obviously looking forward to whatever you’ve got coming. I figured it was logistics. In my Genesis journey, (I’m buying and experiencing in chronological order, I’m only up to Nursery Cryme. I’m getting Foxtrot next week, and will be listening to that episode again. Then comes Selling England by the Pound. I hope that’s one you have “In the can”, along with the Ant interview.

        Steve

Now that you have podcast the debut solo albums by all five of the classic Genesis line-up, you should consider doing a meta-poll, asking people for their favourite out of Face Value, Smallcreep’s Day, PG1, Voyage of the Acolyte and A Curious Feeling.
