Tabletop Genesis Episode 56 – “Acting Very Strange”

Why, no one could EVER talk for two hours about Mike Rutherford’s second solo album, “Acting Very Strange,” could they? To that, the Tabletop says, “Hold our beers, Maxine!” Simon Godfrey (Tribe of Names) and Rutherford aficionado Katherine Stratton join Mike and Tom for a lively discussion about this infamous record.

That was me whose comment got on the air. I stand by what I said, but what I will add is that it’s almost like he’s trying to do his best Peter Gabriel impression at times. Early, first 2 albums, not-sure-where-he’s-going-with-his-music Peter Gabriel. It doesn’t make it sound any better. Great podcast!

Really enjoyable podcast always so nice when another one arrives on your site. Not a favourite album but I did buy it on vinyl when it was released. I guess it shows how hard it is to produce a solo album of consistent quality. Rather highlights the multiple talents of Phil Collins at his peak.

Really enjoyed this ‘cast. Day to remember, love the way that sounds. Has some cool percussion sounds as someone mentioned, like Mama. And, like Maxine, this whole album rocks, cept the end, which I think all Genesis gents lose somesight of as their work continued.
