The entire album is amazing. It’s very hard to pick a favorite song. I wish he would play the small creeps suite when he tours with the mechanics….. I’d pay top dollar for that show…

My feelings are the same as Rikline’s. This is an album I play from start to finish every time. I can’t choose a favorite track because I think they’re all quite well written. I can proudly say that I’ve loved Smallcreep’s Day from the very first listen right when it came out in 1980. The transitions, a.k.a.”Mike’s bits”, between the songs add tons of atmosphere to the whole listening experience. I love how he has woven all of these into the fabric of the whole. Here, Mike’s electric guitar work, along with what he did on Genesis’ Duke album in the same year is arguably the strongest of his entire career. Simon Phillips on drums and Ant Phillips (no relation) on keys are both tremendous musical lifts that really make this record shine. On top of all that, Noell McCalla’s soulful voice was the best surprise, adding just the right amount of emotional icing to an already sumptuous cake. This is a great record that brings back a tidal flow of cherished memories for me. Looking forward to the podcast!
