Tabletop Genesis Episode 69 – i/o The Album

After an entire year of individual track reveals (and 21 years), Peter Gabriel’s i/o was finally released in December 2023. Was the song-a-month release strategy a satisfying experiment, or did it make the ultimate album release a bit anticlimactic? The Tabletop and returning guest David Priess offer their takes.

I hated the drip feed approach to releasing music.

I heard panopticon and bought the download. Was really excited to hear more but decided to wait for the albums proper release (guessing it would come out in line with the European leg of the tour).

Now I’ve got the album .. it’s stunningly good imho … but I would have loved to have gone to the gig knowing the songs I was about to hear.

Really looking forward to catching this latest Podcast. I will be interested to see what you make of the album as a whole now we have it. I agree with previous comment that I prefer to see the music released as an album rather than the monthly approach.
